About Mira Mehta
Mira Mehta’s poetic ventures began at school: whenever possible she wrote poems instead of essays for homework. After graduating in linguistics from London University she studied Sanskrit and Indian Religion at Oxford. She then turned to Yogic subjects and became known world-wide in the field of Yoga through her books (see www.yogicpath.com). Her interest in language remained, however. She took up poetry composition again and subsequently studied Sanskrit Poetics with Professor K S Arjunwadkar, a noted scholar whose work on Poetics is on the reading list of Indian universities.
Mira also has an interest in performance poetry. She learnt verse speaking from Adrian Brown, an Emmy Award winning director who runs the Planet Theatre Company (www.planettheatreproductions.co.uk).
She is the author of a poetry collection, Cascade of Stars, and translations of philosophical verse from Sanskrit, Readings for Serenity (in Health through Yoga). Her second collection, With a Wave of My Wand, is being prepared for publication.
Mira has given many talks and recitations in the UK and abroad and now runs regular workshops, The Essence of Poetry, illustrating the insights of Sanskrit Poetics through poems of English literature.
