Our classes are organised in 12-week terms or 4- or 6-week blocks. This is to provide a structured and stable learning environment. However, you may join a class at any time throughout the term.
Please email the teacher directly for the classes you wish to attend. Please also fill in the Spring Application Form and bring it with you to the class.
We teach a wide variety of postures, relaxation and breathing techniques, reinforcing key points and introducing subtle ones. You will be able to build a foundation of practice so that you can confidently make Yoga part of your life.

Introduction to Yoga

For beginners – of any age – or students who would like to go back to basics.
We teach simple standing, sitting, inverted and relaxation poses and you learn to stretch and to de-stress. You will feel the beneficial effects on body and mind immediately. We advise you to repeat this set of classes.

Yoga Step by Step
For students with some experience of Yoga.
We build on the foundation of the beginners’ classes, exploring more poses of different types, including twists and backbends, and their beneficial effects. We also introduce simple breath control techniques. We give guidance on what to practise at home.

Progressing in Yoga
For students who would like to delve more deeply into Yoga and have practised for at least three years.
We explore the how and why of practice in order to gain an integrated understanding and also tackle more difficult poses. You will learn general principles of practice, therapeutic methods and Breath Control (Pranayama).

Advanced Postures
For students who have practised Yoga for at least eight years.
You should be able to do Head Balance (Sirsasana) with variations, Lotus Pose (Padmasana) and Bridge Backbend (Urdhva Dhanurasana).
We teach techniques, sequencing and cautions regarding complex poses. You will be challenged to experience the harmony of mind-body movement. The advanced poses will lead you towards profundity in Yoga.

Yoga Breathwork
Breathing - the fundamental process of life - is linked to moods, emotions, energy levels and concentration. Yoga breath work enhances mental functioning, relaxation and self-knowledge. This class teaches relaxation poses, breath control practices (pranayama) and visualisation techniques.
The class is for students with a regular posture (asana) practice. It is not suitable for beginners.

Yoga and Life
Yoga offers a perspective on the sufferings of life and aims to prevent future suffering. This class introduces the teachings of Yoga through readings from original works, exploring their relevance for life today. No prior knowledge of Yoga is necessary. Therapy Yoga
Mira Mehta
For people suffering from health problems, whether beginners or experienced students.
Yoga is a uniquely effective method of alleviating health problems, whether minor, acute or chronic. It restores the natural movement of joints and muscles and boosts the natural healing energies of the body. Some examples of conditions that can be helped are backache, injuries, arthritis, asthma, IBS, gynaecological problems, fatigue, depression and hypertension.
In an initial consultation we give you a Yoga programme suited to your specific needs. You follow this in the classes under supervision. This programme is developed over time. - Medical History Form

Yoga for Children (starting in April 2012)

For children aged 7 to 12
The children learn a wide variety of poses, involving coordination, fast movements and sequences and memory games. In addition we introduce them to Yoga ethics through proverbs and stories.
Yoga helps children develop qualities such as diligence, patience, intelligence, energy and courage.
Community Yoga
This is a general class suitable for all levels including beginners. It is taught by trainee teachers under the supervision of Shyam Mehta.

Shyam also supports Khaled Kendsi with his Introduction to Yoga class on Monday evenings.
Holiday Class
Liz Brown will be running a general Yoga class between the school's terms. To attend this class, students will need to have some experience of Yoga. The dates will be updated as we are nearer to the term's breaks. Please contact Liz directly for more details and to book into this class. The cost is £12 per class.
