Mira Mehta has practised Yoga since childhood with BKS Iyengar. She has a Masters degree in Classical Indian Religion and Sanskrit from Oxford and pursued postgraduate studies of Yoga texts with Professor KS Arjunwadkar. She also has a Diploma in Basic Ayurveda. She holds an Advanced Yoga Teaching Certificate from BKS Iyengar.
Mira began teaching at a young age and is known as a leading expert on Yoga with a rounded proficiency in philosophy, postures, Yoga therapy and teacher training. She has also taught extensively abroad. She founded The Yogic Path in 1999. She is the author of four books on Yoga, all published in many languages: Yoga: the Iyengar Way (with Silva Mehta & Shyam Mehta); How to Use Yoga; Health through Yoga; and Yoga Explained (with KS Arjunwadkar). She has also written a poetry collection, Cascade of Stars and gives workshops on poetics.
Mira and her brother, Shyam, were featured in 1999 on Government of India stamps commemorating yoga. Mira was listed in The Best of British Women 1993 for work in the field of alternative health.

Shyam Mehta

Shyam also supports Khaled Kendsi with his Introduction to Yoga class on Monday evenings.
Shyam Mehta began Yoga as a child with BKS Iyengar. He worked as an actuary and financial economist, a profession from which he retired in order to pursue his interest in art and creative writing. He holds an Advanced Yoga Teaching Certificate from BKS Iyengar and has taught Yoga since early adulthood.
Harry Ades

Harry Adès has been studying Iyengar Yoga since 1998 and has been teaching since 2007. He is also an author and has written eight published books, including A Traveller's History of Egypt and The Rough Guide to Ecuador; he has edited and contributed to many others. Currently his main job is the one he enjoys most, looking after his young daughter.

Introduction to Yoga - Holiday Class
Liz Brown first began practising yoga in 1993 from a library book while at university, and qualified as an Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2004. She had hip surgery in early childhood, and her yoga practice helps to minimise the impact of those operations. She works part-time, and is also a qualified Zero Balancing practitioner.
Philippa Frisby

Yoga for Children - Introduction to Yoga
Philippa Frisby studied Comparative Religion and began practising Yoga in 1990 at University. She worked as a researcher on many film and television productions including the award winning documentary The Torture Trail for the Channel 4 programme Dispatches as well as making a film of her own, The River, about the Ganges. She has been teaching Yoga since 2001. She is married with two children.
Elizabeth (Sissi) Gill

Sissi Gill grew up in Italy. She came to London in 1966 and was a lecturer and academic researcher in European History and Politics until 1988. After a spell working for an international organisation, she decided to spend more time with her extended family. Sissi started Yoga with Silva Mehta in 1979 and took 20 years to feel ready to teach. When not teaching or managing sixteen grandchildren, she listens to piano music, reads, cooks and thinks.
Khaled Kendsi

Khaled was born in Oran, Algeria, and came to the UK via France. He has worked in the NHS for the last 20 years and recently qualified as a Cardiac Assistant Practitioner performing ECG’s, Exercise Tolerance Tests. He also assists in the Cardiac Catheter Lab. He is qualified in Immediate Life Support. He is married and has a stepson. Khaled started practicing Yoga in 1998 because of a lower back injury; Yoga helped him with this. He qualified as a teacher in 2010.
Louise Kaye

Louise first became aware of Yoga as a small child watching her mother practice. She began attending Yoga classes in the mid 80s and qualified to teach Yoga ten years later. An artist by profession, she has recently rekindled her art practice with a show in Cape Town, South Africa. Louise lives with her family and has two children.

BKS Iyengar
BKS Iyengar (b.1918) was cited by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the 100 most influential figures of the 20th century. He has developed Yogic postures (asanas) and breath control practices (pranayama) into a comprehensive system featuring anatomical accuracy and safe progression. His book Light on Yoga is a modern classic and has been called the “yoga bible”. His method of Yoga is followed by many millions of students worldwide.
Silva Mehta
Silva Mehta (1926-1994), the mother of Mira and Shyam, was an early disciple of BKS Iyengar and was a key figure in the spread of Yoga in the UK. In the 1970s she ran the first Government-sponsored Yoga Teacher Training course in London and developed disciplined and structured teaching methods which have been passed on to generations of teachers. She was a founder member of the Iyengar Yoga Institute in London. She authored Yoga: the Iyengar Way (with Mira and Shyam Mehta).
Professor K S Arjunwadkar
Krishna S Arjunwadkar (b.1914) is an award-winning scholar of Sanskrit from Pune, India, honoured by the Government of India for his services to Sanskrit. He has written books and articles on Indian philosophy, poetics and linguistic studies. His notable works include a Sanskrit primer for schools, a popular guide to the Bhagavad Gita and a study of Yoga literature. He gave many lectures at the inception of The Yogic Path, helping to establish its philosophical foundations. He is co-author (with Mira Mehta) of Yoga Explained.
